Eva Green has landed the female lead in Dark Shadows, the Tim Burton-
directed adaptation of the 60s supernatural TV soap opera for Warner
Bros. Green, who made a most memorable impression when she broke James
Bond's heart in Casino Royale as Vesper Lynd, is negotiating to play
the role of Angelique. In the series, she was a powerful witch who was
alternately tormented and bewitched by her love-hate relationship with
Barnabas Collins. Depp will play Collins. Lara Parker played the role
in the original Gothic horror soap. The French-born actress most
recently starred oppposite Ewan McGregor in the romantic thriller
Perfect Sense, the Sundance title just acquired by IFC. Green just
signed with UTA and she is also repped by UK-based Tavistock Wood.
Yesterday, Deadline revealed that Jackie Earle Haley and Bella
Heathcoate are also negotiating lead roles in the film.

And hopefully some of its denizens will jump all over describing Angelique
as 'the female lead'. The primary female character in the series was
Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (played by Joan Bennett), and I would consider
Carolyn Stoddard (Nancy Barrett), Maggie Evans (Kathryn Leigh Scott), and
Dr. Julia Hoffman (Grayson Hall) to be larger parts over the course of the
series than Angelique. Victoria Winters (1st played by Alexandra Moltke)
was intended to be the primary romantic lead at the start of the series,
but probably comes out below Angelique/Catherine/Cassandra/Valerie/etc.
over-all.

It kind of depends on who Josette is. If they go with the original
Vicky = Josette plan, then Vicky is absolutely the lead. Once Vicky =
Maggie, then it gets somewhat diluted. Angelique is certainly the
villian of the piece though.

You know, I always wondered about this--and I raced home from school
as a kid to watch the show daily. I never understood why Vicky didn't
go into the past, or (if my memory is getting really bad, and I have
to rewatch on Netflix) if she did, she went as a kind of time-and-
space glitch, Oops, we forgot to replicate Vicky kind of thing...when
they even replicated the kids. David was great. I wonder if Justin
Beiber will play him. :) Whoever plays him will be the next big 16
Magazine boy toy.

Vickie DID go into the past. It was through her eyes that we met the
Collinses of 1795. Starting in episode 356:

The situation was, Vicky was not romantically involved with Barnabas
for most of the series. She had other stories.
That is daytime drama. There were more than one plot ongoing.

When he first appeared, Barnabas was a villain. In was only after the
audience fell in love with him that they "redeemed" the character by
showing that it was all Angelique's fault. So a lot depends on whether
the new movie follows the same arc. Which the TV remake did.
