The Dark Shadows News Page posted a quote from Tim Burton about the
movie:

"Is Dark Shadows a comedy? Is it a dark Gothic drama? Is it both? I've
never thought about it in those terms. Because it's more about trying to
get a vibe right... in a weird, melodramatic, soap opera-y way. I've
made something that I can't quite categorise."

Certainly doesn't sound like a comedic farce to me, sounds very
promising, IMHO.

He asked the right questions. His answer is evasive. I'm not
surprised.

Hmmm, I didn't read it as evasive. He said he was going for a "weird,
melodramatic and soap opera-ish" vibe, which certainly describes DS, and
seems like a fairly clear and reasonable reply to me, short of giving
out every detail.

He alluded to the movie not being easily pigeonholed, but then, neither
was the original. Some classify it as horror, some as soapy melodrama,
some as a gothic tragedy, and others as pure camp....and they'd all be
right, because it was all those things at different times.

It seems to me that it's likely to be pretty true to the spirit of the
series, but with Burton's twisted, stylized gothic sensibilities, which
I personally love. YMMV...

You should be so lucky this newsgroup has something to read at least.
Most of my groups are averaging somewhere around one or two posts a
day. And that is on a good day. Seriously.

Weird I'm ok with. Melodrama I'm ok with as well, especially where DS
is concerned. But I don't think he actually answered the question of
whether this will be a comedy or not. We'll see soon enough.

Funny thing is, I believed Burton would be a perfect fit for Dark
Shadows when I first heard about the movie. I wonder if he approved
of that trailer, I have no idea how that works in Hollywood.

Translation: the final cut isn't done yet, much of the film may
change between now and opening day.

Bear in mind Buton has probably shot thousands of hours of
film, about two hours will be used, the rest will end up on the
cutting room floor.

He can't characterize the final product because the final
product isn't done.

He probably had close to zero say in the trailer. The trailers were
made by some advertising monkeys.

I hope you're right.

I just learned that the Dictator movie is changing its release date?
Why? Its a comedy, and it does not want to compete with Dark Shadows
which 'turned out to be more comedic then expected' in one article and
'the recent Marketing Campaign has revealed the film has a heavy
comedic slant' in another article.

You'll excuse me if I remain skeptical about the movie when another
movie's release date is changed due to this trailer.

Oh well, only another month to go to find out. :)
