Oh it won't be all bad. The movie will be wonderfully done.

But it will be a comedy-horror, like Beetlejuice, also by Burton.

For the full story and apparantly a very early review go to

aintitcool.com

Some things just can never be equaled, I guess....

Hmmmm... I'm wondering if the reviewer, who admitted to being
unfamiliar with the show, mistook what may have been an homage to the
campiness of the original as flat-out comedy. It sounds like it will
probably be typical Burton - gothic and atmospheric, with some
well-placed dark humor. I find it difficult to believe that Burton and
Depp - well-known for their great love and respect for the original -
would blow their shot at their passion project by completely trashing
the spirit of the show. I just don't buy it.

And whoa... did the reviewer misinterpret the characters, or are they
actually making Liz and Roger MARRIED rather than siblings?!?!?!?!

In the press release from WB that nearly ALL of us have read- the
synopsis clearly states that Roger is Elizabeth's "Ne'er do well
brother"- as they put it. I haven't read this review, but the dude who
wrote it sounds like an idiot.

I noticed several points of interest:

1. "Early test screening" Meaning there will be many changes between
now and opening day.

2. "Things get shaken up for the family when Barnabas, freshly dug up
from his tomb by an ill-fated construction crew." Hmmm......no
Willlie Loomis?

3. The reviewer has to be in his 20s if he never heard of Dark
Shadows. I find that discouraging. You'd think AintitCool would
find someone old enough to have seen the show in one of it's runs.

4. Note to the reviewer: Rent the original from Netflix.

Oberon: You could be right. A month or more back, someone posted
Helena Bonham Carter indicating pretty much the same thing as
aintitcool...

I also recall that a year, or more ago, Burton indicated that he was
going to change a few things around, so yeah, maybe Roger and Liz are
married, but that would make her a Collins by marriage, which I don't
see. Probably you're right on that one.

Aintitcool is / was tepid towards the many years of DS fandom. I
remember a few time where I posted things to stir up recent events
like when Dan Curtis died, or when the 3rd possible season had a
pilot. I got nothing from them. DS of long ago is to un-aintitcool
for them.

It's very possiblet that the Studio is running a number of test
screenings using various versions to test audience reaction.

I'd also bet that the studio hasn't released a trailer because they
have no clue how to market this movie. it also probably doesn't
help that most of the marketing department never saw the original
series.

I would reluctantly bet that many of the people at AintItCool are
young enough to have never seen Dark Shadows. And if they
were old enough they probably never bothered to watch the
show in it's various runs. Being a "soap opera" may have turned
many of them off.

I would have to say Beetltejuice wasn't really comedy or Horror.
it had some comedy elements in it and some horror elements
but those were few and far between.

Of the entire Beetlejuice film maybe .005% of it was horror, it wasn't
really comedy either. it took a light hearted approach but it wasn't
really comedy.

it would call it more a "fun" fantasy film.

Finally i'd wait until the final result to see what the film looks
like, I have to think the studio is testing a number of edits
to determine a final product, that the final product will be
very much to the liking of Dark Shadows fans.

Burton probably knows exactly what he wants to do with the fiilm,
the studio on the other hand probably has no clue what to
do with the fiilm or how to sell it.

Wow, I have to respecfully disagree about Beetlejuce not being a comedy!
It's one of the most hilarious movies I've ever seen, probably only
second to Young Frankenstein. The "Day-O" scene at the dinner table
never fails to leave me laughing!

And it doesn't hurt that I love me some Michael Keaton... <g>

Well for a movie that is supposed to be a comedy I have to say I
didn't laugh once.

It was a fun movie but i still didn't laugh once.

But then it is rare that a scene can get me to laugh.
All too often the dialogue is all too predictable.
