I've seen two positive reviews here and no negative ones. Is that all
who've seen it? I ended up not going, due to the lack of fan response.
Maybe next weekend, if I hear more positive reviews from fans.

I think it was unfortunate that they chose to open 1 weekend after
"The Avengers". It could have done SO much better. Even the 4pm
showing i saw opening day was pretty well packed.
I liked it a lot.

Oberon here, and sorry it took so long to post, but I have seen it;

went on Saturday night, late, with some friends.

Audience was nearly full and were attentive; no boos, groans, laughs,
etc.

*I liked it, quite a bit* and I was one of the first who posted that
I had grave mis-givings!

It is not, in my opinion, and intentional comedy. There are some
light, funny moments.

There are also a couple of very sad and weary scenes (David near the
end, and the whole Maggie-Victoria thing, strike me as pretty sad
moments)

I'm not so I "got" the ending; might have to see it again.

I also think this movie resonates strongly with me, because of the
time period. That era, '72' ish, was my final year of High School
(graduated in June '73) and was a very magickal time in general -
though I missed DS no longer being on, but I myself, like Carolyn,
perhaps, had drifted on to Hippy-ism and youth culture as expressed
that way.

Carolyn dancing to Donovan's Season of the Witch in the first part,
and also her doing the little girl's voice introducing Alice Cooper's
"Ballad of Dwight Frye" (if you don't know, he's the actor who played
Renfield, in the Dracula movie, similar roles) added a lot of tone,
since it rang so true for me...

I liked it enough to want to own and or see again. I think the ending
was half to long.

I liked what happened with Roger; fits. I think there are some ideas
that could be a sequel, but probably won't happen due to box office;
or maybe a 'soft' TV show/take on it. Who knows?
I thought Hoffman was hilarious; especially the way Helena mimiced
her at times' over-wrought wide-eyed look - you know what I mean.

My friends, who should have known better, totally missed the very
microscopic cameo by Frid, Parker, Selby and Leigh-Scott. I think they
could have done a lot better; Selby could have been one of the old
salts in the Christopher scene, for example. Parker could be in the
board room scene with Green... so on.

I still liked over all. Not magnicently, but well enough.
I am sure Sister Barnabas would not approve, but she never did back
in the old days either and those of you who've been here, know that,
by that story from my long ago youth.

-cheers, Oberon

I don't think it would matter at this point. The Avenges will be
the number one movie for many more weeks to come. I wouldn't
be surprised if it breaks Titanics record for most weeks at #1.

The only way Avengers could have been avoided was to open Dark Shadows
in March or April.
