I keep seeing stories that mention it as a fact, not just a rumor. Here's
one:

I am hopeful!

Another film to avoid. Depp should spend all his time helping the
murderers and rapists he so dearly loves.

Well, that would be in his area of expertise, considering how many times he
got arrested by the Miramar, FL police when he was a punk living there and
going to Miramar High School.

LOL, I did not know that. Explains a lot.

I'll go see it if it happens. I wonder how they'll approach it.
Hopefully, it won't be only focused on the Barnabas story.

Depp certainly has the range, and Burton is the king of stylized goth,
so I can't imagine they would make too much of a misstep, especially
considering both are huge fans of the original and will surely want to
do it justice. I think it will be amazing, and I can't wait.

My ONLY small concern would be if Burton goes overboard on the graphic
blood and gore like he did in "Sweeney Todd," which was unnecessary and
frankly ruined what would have otherwise been a wonderful film musical.

Still betting on Helena Bonham Carter playing Angelique. Well, since
they probably won't get around to the Mad Jenny storyline <g>

When has Burton *not* made a misstep?

Oh wow, most of his movies I guess! JMHO of course, but I am a big fan -
the look and atmosphere of his movies is just incredible. "Beetlejuice"
is one of the most flat-out hilarious movies ever, his first "Batman"
movie was just brilliant, "Sleepy Hollow" was great... and it just goes
on and on.

And of course, there's "Frankenweenie" :)

Oberon: I absouletly can see her as Mad Jenny... which brings up my
best point since I heard about this...

Depp is actually a best cast for Quentin, if you think about it.
Though Barnabas and Quentin both have legions of fans who think either
was by far the more handsome, I think the living metaphor of our great
actor Johnny Depp, always looking young, fresh and handsome

is spot on to play Quentin, a character who is forever young due to
the magic painting.

Well, that's my take I guess...

I could definitely see him playing either role very well. As I said,
he's got tremendous range - one of the best things about him is that
there really is no "typical" Johnny Depp role. He's always surprising
and unique.

LOL, that debate truly was the original "Team Edward" vs. "Team Jacob"

I wholeheartedly agree. Depp makes no sense as Barnabas, and would be
perfect as Quentin. But these days, the vampire paradigm is a hot
20-something guy, so Depp is closer to that mold than the classic
Dracula archetype
