I really have to wonder if this is a good thing.

After seeing some of their past work I really have
trepidations about what they may do our beloved
Dark Shadows.

I think Burton has the perfect sensibilities for anything gothic, and
Depp is so versatile, I know he will be able to do Barnabas justice.
And another good point in their favor is that they both are huge fans of
the original series, so I'm sure they will be motivated not to stray too
far from the heart of the story and the characters.

As long as they don't pull a "Sweeney Todd" and go overboard on
unnesessary blood and gore, I don't think they can go wrong, and I'm
thrilled at the prospect of what they'll come up with! JMHO.

Any word of who Helena Bonham Carter will play, as I can't imagine
Burton not including her? I suppose she could be romantic heroine
Josette, but I think she'd be a great Angelique. Unless they're
bringing Crazy Jenny into the story <g>

I could easily see a movie with a character like Barnabas is painted
very darkly, not to mention a very dark Angelique.

Also it could be very violent, very bloody.

Ok- just a quick stop at IMDB and i see Bonham-Carter was born in
1966.. 2 years before me. That'd make her 44 and WAY too old to
Josette or Vicki. Even Angelique is supposed to be much younger and i
am no agist. HBC is simply too old for any of these parts.
My guess is Hoffman. She can play the intelligence & age enough to
pull off Hoffman i think & still be in the running for a love
interest- as they always hinted at with Barnabas & Julia.

Of course at this point we can always (and still will) play the "who
would you cast?" game. But i sincerely hope HBC isn't Vicki or Josette
or Angelique. Frankly i'm tired of this notion that he (Burton) needs
to put every one of his ladies into the lead. She could easily slip
into a side role as far as DS is concerned.

Charlize Theron, OTOH would make an excellent Angellique- along with a
handful of other great actresses. But at this point it's anybodys
guess.
I'd still love to see Tilda Swinton or Cate Blanchette as Hoffman- as
a side note.
HBC could make a decent Liz- if they aged her i suppose.
Pity Mr. Burton isn't still dating Lisa Marie. She'd fit into the
picture quite nicely.

But again.. just my humble two cents.
Cheers!

Ricci has a quality about her that keeps her coming off as very young

Some people speculate that possibly Anne Hathaway would be a good

Or Zooey Deschanel's name has been tossed about for Vicki too. That i

A few random comments:

Yeah, I can see the age thing with HBC as Josette or Angelique, I was
thinking more of her personality and acting ability, I guess. Although
I still think she probably could pull off Angelique pretty well. She
kind of has that timeless quality that suits her to period pieces, even
in younger roles.

I actually don't hate the idea of Angelina Jolie as Angelique. She
could certainly pull off that scary icy glare quite well LOL! And yes,
Christina Ricci would also be great, in either role.

I think Anne Hathaway would be a fantastic Vicki/Josette, she's just
stunning, a great actress, and would look fabulous in those elegant
gowns ala Princess Diaries. I could also see Keira Knightley as
Vicki/Josette, with maybe Scarlett Johannson as Angelique.

How about Marion Cotilliard as Julia? Dakota Fanning as Carolyn? Steve
Buscemi as Willie? :)

I totally agree with ALL of that. I even thought of Dakota Fanning as
Carolyn! Have you seen "The Runaways"? OMG- she can act! Always has,
so i was anxious to see how she'd do as an adult-ish role.

Keira is another great choise i think as well. Like minded there,
Diva. <g> And either one would look stunning in those "almost over-
exposed white gown running through the dark woods" in Hammer-esque
scenes... theremin in the background, naturally.

Whoever HBC ends up being- she will be great as always. I'm one of
those weird people who NEVER gets sick of watching "Howard's End" due
to her and Emma Thompson's easily played performances. Just wonderful
& endlessly enjoyable!
HBC would be great Hoffman- but i allready mentioned my other 2
choices.

I had a great idea for Roger and Liz but i forget- since i play this
game in my head as much as anyone here lol.
Would Kelsey Grammer be too old for Roger? Sigourney Weaver as Liz? or
Miranda Richardson.
I could go on all day. but i do agree with alot of your points, Vince

Nice to lend my voice to the group again a bit. It's been a while.

I would say Kenneth Branagh as Roger, but HBC's all-but-certain presence
in the film might make that a bit awkward. But then, I remember both
HBC and Emma Thompson - both Branagh exes - were in the same movie a
while ago (one of the Harry Potter movies? Not sure offhand) so maybe
everyone's past the awkwardness by now... Or maybe Branagh as Stokes
instead? That might be very interesting!

How about Helen Mirren or Judy Dench as Elizabeth?

As for Dakota Fanning, no I didn't see The Runaways, but she's amazing
in the Twilight movies as the evil Jane - if only she were just a few
years older, she'd be the perfect Angelique! Hard to believe she's the
adorable little girl from just a few years ago!

I know it's been a while, Diva Darlin' (named after my fave RHPS

the way of the white gown running through the woods is purely
aesthetical and not erotic LOL. At least to me anyway.
Just sayin'.

Pull her hair up- plop some glasses on her, hand her a hypodermic &
give her some quippy lines & she'd be an excellent Julia Hoffman.

I had a great idea for Roger and Liz but i
forget- since i play this game in my
head as much as anyone here lol.
Would Kelsey Grammer be too old for
Roger? Sigourney Weaver as Liz? or
Miranda Richardson.

Ah Diva. As a lover of movies that i know you are- you must see "The
Runaways"! I didn't want to like Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett- but she
did a terrific job. Excellent performance. Great acting and body
language-- she WAS Joan Jett.
Good fllick also.
Check it.
Cheers, Doll.

And either one would look stunning in
those "almost over- exposed white gown

Hammer-esque scenes... theremin in

You'll have your cinematic eye candy, and I'll have Depp <g>

Whoever HBC ends up being- she will be
great as always. I'm one of those weird
people who NEVER gets sick of
watching "Howard's End" due to her and
Emma Thompson's easily played
performances.
Oh, I like HBC too. She has a fascinating presence that's just
off-kilter enough to keep you interested.

I really have to wonder if this is a good
thing.
After seeing some of their past work I
really have trepidations about what they
may do our beloved Dark Shadows.

Some people speculate that possibly Anne Hathaway would be a good
Vicki but someone else was adamantly against it LOL Cant recall if
that was in here or not. But i could live with that. I used to not
care for her much- now she doesn't bother me.
Or Zooey Deschanel's name has been tossed about for Vicki too. That i
could see.

Look at her in any early roles. She had them then.. she has them in

No.. i didn't see that. I haven't watched Top Chef in a few seasons.
Good show though.
it's on http://youtu.be/czOWOztiIpo
She can't eat this, can't eat that, she's gluten intolerant, doesn't eat
soy...
A total food diva
Were I one of the chefs, I'd have just set an orange in front of her,
and said, "Bon appetit!"
Oh Good Christ! She is a vegetarian & she can't eat soy? WTF? And
fish- i can sort of understand.. but nearly every vegetarian i've ever
known at least eats fish or sushi. And dairy? Cows don't have to die
to get dairy! Unless she is lactose intolerant- i just dont get it.
Maybe i missed that bit.
I loves my moo juice! I have it with nearly everything. My partner is
lactose intolerant so he has his Almond Milk (which is kind of yummy
on its own or on cereal).

But honestly.. if i had THAT many issues with food- i'd shoot myself.
I'm a great cook and i love good food. I am a picky eater but i do my
own cooking and it works out great for me. Don't care much for fish
though- which drives my guy crazy! I tell him "Have fish when you eat
out cuz you ain't cookin' it in MY kitchen!" ~:oD
Did you see Tin Man? BOY, that was good! I just flipped thru channels
one day and started watching, and I was amazed that an updated version
of such a classic could be so good.
That's what first brought her to my attention
I only caught bits of that- but enough to make me really want to see
the entire thing. I think i will rent the dvd if i go that route-
rather than catch it in Syfy. That's where i first saw her too i
think. That or "Bridge to Terabithia" which isnt nearly as dreadful as
one might think.

I will just comment about your 2nd post in this one to save time and
reader frustration.
LOVED the parody.. very funny.
"Maybe... the pig.. was having a bad day.. because.. people were
picking on him.... because of how pink he was.."
ROFL!

I, too, sorta miss the rotary dial phone. Not that i'd want to return
to it- just nostalgic for them. I used to play with them for hours- my
grandma would get so pissed and say i'd break it if i didnt stop.
Adults always use that excuse to be a kid-fun buzz kill LOL

Sounds as if Zooey might be vegan, not just vegetarian, from the
descriptions you've made.

To each his/her own, but I would think those heavy dietary restrictions
would make it difficult to farily judge a regular (non-vegan) food
competition. It would be akin to having a diabetic judge the Pillsbury
Bake-Off.

I'm pretty much of an omnivore, about the only things I absolutely hate
are onions and liver. Onions are tolerable if they're cooked very
well, in small amounts, in a soup or sauce, but raw onions literally
make me gag. I always make my own potato salad, since EVERYONE puts
onions in it! I also don't do super-spicy foods, either.

Yeah- maybe i was a bit harsh. To each his own is absolutely right.
But i also agree- she's got NO place in a Food Contest show with those
restrictions.

There is a cook on the Food Network, Ann Burrell- with a crappy show
"Secrets of a Restaurant Chef" and she refuses to use black pepper
EVER! And she puts salt in everything *literally* by the fistful. I
love black pepper and i can see not using it on everything but she
uses it on nothing. Plus- she is very uber-annoying. A Bleach Blonde
Troll Doll who gesticulates way too much. Sometimes when she tastes
her own food- she makes a face & you can tell even she doesn't like
her own cooking! LOL

I like onions cooked in stuff- if done well. Although the older i get
the more i've cut back on the amount i use. And if i make a meatloaf
or something with onion- i sautee the heck outa them. Makes them much
milder.

I find that a tiny bit of finely minced shallot in my potato salad is
nice enough to give some onion flavor without smackin' ya in the face
with it. I've grown to really like and use shallot alot. Very mild.

I think the only time i do raw onion is a ring or two of Red onion on
a Hamburger. That's about it.

Mmmm.. now i really want potato salad! LOL

It's funny you mentioned Anne Burrell, she's the one Food Network chef
that really bugs me too, just her personality, can't put my finger on
it. Actually, I don't care much for Alex from Alex' Day Off either,
especially when she's a judge on Chopped, she just comes off as so cold
and snobby, although on her own show not as much.

Love Food Network, especially Rachael Ray, Paula Deen and Alton Brown -
adore them, although I'm not a fan of Iron Chef, as it's too
uber-gourmet for my tastes. I prefer chefs like Rachel who make *real*
food that people would actually want to cook and eat on an everyday
basis, not "platypus tartare served with a squid ink and poison sumac
reduction" :)

I also love Guy Fieri, especially since he's from our area - Sonoma
County is only an hour away from us. I get a kick out of him!
Would love to go to his restaurant sometime.

Ah, so it's not just me then! She is annoying- plain and simple.
Her body movement.. her wording... everything about her. Uch! And i
dont trust any cook who refuses to use black pepper- period!
Back when her show was on Saturday mornings at 10:30, i used to use
her show to get me woken up a bit because i'd watch her, get annoyed
and then yell at my tv- which in turned help wake me up.
Me & my guy LOVE to make fun of her. I swear if she were on late i'd
make a drinking game out of her show. tee hee.
For everytime she makes her growly noise=a shot. For every time she
says "Loosey Goosey"=2 shots. And for everytime she mentions her
"Thanks for coming" trashbowl=hell, just drink period! LOL

Same with the "Chopped" lady. I simply don't like her.
There is a gal who has a mexican cooking show who looks & sounds JUST
like Mila Kunis. I enjoy her show too. She's cute.

I'm with you. I like the more down to Earth types. Paula Deen being
personal fave. Did you happen to catch Brian Boitono's show when it
was on? His seasons are very short but i LOVE watching it. When did he
get sooo cute! And he's hilarious. Plus he lives in SF, so everytime
they show his house i'm like "Ooo! I think i know where that is!" and
a few markets he's been in are close to my apt.

Guy- hmm. He doesn't bug me much- but i like his food and i LOVE
Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives because that there is my kind of food, baby!
The Blue Plate Special type food. Nom nom. That show makes me so
hungry! <g>

There is a 2nd cooking channel now with a whole slew of likeable and
some very dislikeable people on it as well. They play reruns of Two

Yes, I caught a few episodes of "What Would Brian Boitano Make," mainly
because I'm a big figure skating fan and it's fun seeing the stars from
that great era (80s-90s). My favorite is Brian's bud Scott Hamilton,
just LOVE him! I got to see him his last couple of years skating with
Stars On Ice, and it was amazing. Skate God For Life, baby! :) I still
love figure skating, but for me, it hasn't been quite the same since
Tara Lipinski beat Michelle Kwan at the Olympics... there isn't anyone
these days that brings the same excitement that Scott, Brian, Michelle,
Katerina (Witt and Gordeeva), Elvis, Kristi, Kurt, etc. did.

I'm about 2-1/2 hours north of SF (Ukiah), love Northern CA!

As i watch shows like Hells Kitchen, Iron Chef, etc. i'm amazed Chef
Ramsey or one of the other chefs doesn't storm the kitchen with
an Uzi. And these are professional chefs (executive chefs) that are
supposed to be able to work with other people.

Not to mention they have egos that would rival William Shatner.

I really have to wonder if this is a good
thing.
After seeing some of their past work I
really have trepidations about what they
may do our beloved Dark Shadows.

Cheers!
Eddie
Christina RIcci, age 30, did such a good job in SLEEPY HOLLOW that I
often was thinking of Angelique as I was watching her. I think she'd
make a great Angelique, and her age is fine for the role- Hide quoted text -
- Show quoted text -
Ricci has a quality about her that keeps her coming off as very young
even still. So yeah- i think she could pull that off. Or even Vicki.
That i
could see.
* loves zooey deschanel *
She is neat, isn't she? She has a very sweet look about her that i
enjoy. Charismatic & a very decent actress.
I really like her, even though her politics are way to the left of mine.
But she's cute, and has done some good roles.
She's a deva when it comes to food, though. Did you see her on TOP CHEF?

Anyway.. i really wish they'd be a bit more forthcoming with somme
info instead of driving us fans mad with speculation- every Burton
project is always soooo hush hush.
We shall see.. i just will keep my fingers crossed for something that
all or most fans can agree with & enjoy.. (hah)
Well, if i REALLY get close enough to depp, I'll scream out "who's

You Da' Man, Vince! Do it! LOL

Oh, sorry. I forgot to address the first part of your post about ZD on

Did you see Tin Man? BOY, that was good! I just flipped thru channels

YEah, TM was surprisingly good. I typically loathe modern
reinterpretations of classic films, and originally I refused to whtch
what I figured would be a perversion of my 2nd favorite movie of all
time.

But it really is good, and the surprise ending alleviated all my

LOVED the parody.. very funny.
"Maybe... the pig.. was having a bad day.. because.. people were

ROFL!
I liked the 'acting' portion:

John...don't go in there. I think there's a killer in

I almost hit the floor that was so funny since she is by no means a bad
actress. But the parody was great

grandma would get so pissed and say i'd break it if i didnt stop.
Adults always use that excuse to be a kid-fun buzz kill LOL
I have some nice antique ones here, but no jacks to use them in w/out
losing my modern phone

Charlize Theron, OTOH would make an excellent Angellique
Wow. I love CT, but she'd dwarf Depp in every sense of the word.

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly also confirms that the
Burton/Depp DS movie is set to begin filming in April. YAY!

I really have to wonder if this is a good thing.
After seeing some of their past work I really have
trepidations about what they may do our beloved
Dark Shadows.
Yeah, even if Tim Burton hadn't said that I was never to watch another
of his movies, I'd probably skip this.
