Aaaaand...I didn't hate it! I even, after a fashion, enjoyed it. The
comedy was mostly limited to what we'd already seen in the trailers.
There were a few changes that I didn't like, but those were inevitable.
They changed things in "House of Dark Shadows" and the 90s revival
series, and I enjoyed them enough. Not a perfect film, but enjoyable
enough. I thought it was moderately clever how they worked in Laura
Collins and Maggie Evans.

Oh, and it was great seeing Collinwood and Collinsport so beautifully
realized. They were perfect. I wish we could have seen them like that in
the series.

Yes, it was really neat to see the whole town, as opposed to just
basically Collinwood and occasionally the Blue Whale.

It looked very much like many of the small coastal towns here in
Northern California. They've used our coastal area for many movies and
TV shows that are supposed to be East coast/New England. I've been in
the hotel, The Hill House in Mendocino, which was used as the exterior
for Murder, She Wrote.

It was made in England + had Christopher Lee in it, too (he's known to
have a large collection of The Occult books, etc.)! Noticed Depp used
Bela Lugosi's hypnosis had deal = loved that!

I got a real kick out of most of the changes! They were fun, unexpected
little twists that didn't distract from the story or the characters, but
kept things surprising and interesting. My only quibble was the one
character's actions, which I alluded to before, which I wish they had
either not gone with at all, or at least had the character have a change
of heart later in the film. But as for everything else, loved it!

And I agree, most of the comedy was stuff we already saw in the
trailers, and it definitely wasn't a case of throwing in random jokes
for the heck of it. The humor arose naturally from the new, confusing
world Barnabas found himself in, and his reactions were hilarious, but
also very understandable.

Roger? I loved that part of the movie, IMHO it would have been
a cop out to have the character have a change of heart.

I have an uncle who is now 92 years old. It's profound to look at
how much the world has changed since he was born.

So it would be even more profound to see how much the world has
changed since Barnbas was chained in the coffin.

Wasn't going to happen. The movie had a budget of $150 million.
The series had a budget of $0.

Ok the series had a budget of about ten cents.

Why do you think they had things like a bat on a string/stage hands
filling in for actors so they didn't have to pay them an extra day?

The series was a low budget show with the emphasis on low budget.

You don't think Dan Curtis would have done things differently if he
had a budget of $150 million?

You mean the actors were volunteers?

Yes, low. Thank you for repeating what I said. Not $0.

I've seen it a few times now. It's actually better the 2nd viewing
through.
The score was fantastic and really held true to the original, even tho
much of the iconic Robert Cobert music was spared. That's my only big
gripe with the movie... they didn't use the theme song. But Danny
Elfman did a terrific job.
Michelle Pfeifer was outstanding. LOVED HBC as Julia. Roger was spot
on.. as were all the rest i think. One of my fave shots happens in
just a split second- but Mrs. Johnson polishing the Crystal with a
slice of Oscar Mayer Balogne! LOL. And the scene between Julia and
Elizabeth after she had hypnotized Barnabas, great stuff. There are a
couple of lines there where she really did Grayson Hall justice.
I look forward to the Blu Ray and hoping for extras!
Cheers!
