I'm curiious about something.

i just got back from seeing The Averngers (I loved it.)

But i'm wonderiing why this movie made $200 million domestically
the first weekend with no advertising whle Dark Shadows made
a fraction of with a lot of advertising. I knwo the ads for
Dark Shadows sucked but why was the Avengers successful
with no ads at all.

(If there were ads run I didn't see any of them. On the other
a hand I saw a ton of ads for Dark Shadows.)

So why was the Avengers so successful?

Well, I did see trailers for The Avengers quite a bit, so they were
definitely out there.

Also, comic book movies have a large built-in audience of fiercely loyal
fans. Not to mention that several of the characters came from
successful films of their own (Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, etc.)
that already proved themselves, so it was basically a continuation of
something the fans already knew and loved, and people bought tickets
without a second thought.

That DS took the number 2 spot right behind such a huge film in its
opening weekend is a great accomplishment, IMHO. Any film would have
been crushed going up aganst it, so it's hardly a failure to be second.

We've had ads for "The Avengers" ever since the hidden scene at the end
of "Iron Man." Each succeeding Marvel Studios movie was an ad for "The
Avengers." Each of those movies was just building up to "The Avengers."
Seeing the reaction of the audience that was smart enough to stick
around for the post-credit scenes in the Marvel movies left me convinced
that "The Avengers" would be a huge success. This was a movie that a lot
of people wanted to see.

People who don't stick around for the credits miss some interesting (and
a lot of the time, very amusing) stuff. I could make a whole list of
those types of movies, I'm sure.

In the credits for the new DS movie, Dan Curtis' daughters Tracy and
Cathy Curtis are listed as consultants.

I think it would have been clever if the costume design credit for
Colleen Atwood had read differently though. It could have said "fashions
courtesy of..."

Wasn't it The Naked Gun movies that had really funny credits? Those
were very clever, and a nice little gift for attentive, patient
moviegoers.

I love the surprise scenes they add after or during the credits to some
movies. Kinda disappointed they didin't have one in the DS movie.
Actually, that final shot could have been saved for after the credits,
that would have been cool!

Really tempted to go see it a third time beforei it leaves, but not sure
if I'll be able to.

It would have been technically wrong, but still funny.
