Dear Guys:

Does anyone know of like a "top 20 most dramatic Dark Shadow moments"
on any website or list?

One powerful moment (for me) was when Angelique (after numerous
episodes) finally turned Barnabas into a vampire.

What were the other big moments?

For dramatic power, for me, it's hard to beat the episode where
Angelique appeared to Josette at Widow's Hill, frightening her with a
vision of what she would become, and her subsequent jump/fall from the
cliff as Barnabas watched in horror.

Another moment that I'll always remember is during Quentin's trial,
after Trask had walled Barnabas up in the alcove, and the triumphant
look on Barnabas' face (and the look of shock on Trask's) as he walked
into the courtroom.

Also, I remember Vicki's trial. That was very emotional. They
thought she was a witch.

The death of Matthew Morgan, thanks to multiple spirits haunting him at
once, comes to mind immediately. It was an early indication of a
definite shift in the program's direction....Willie opening the lid of
Barnabas' coffin for the first time...Josette calling Jeremiah's name
out at his grave, then recoiling in horror upon seeing a hand emerge
from the ground...Maggie frightened nearly to death, tormented by
laughter of the possessed David and Amy, in a room in the Collins
house...Madam Findley trying to communicate and drive out the ghost of
Quentin from that room in the west wing, with disastrous
results....there are so many wonderful moments from the glory days of
that show.

For sheer laughter, I'll take any scene involving Doctor Lang...Addison
Powell was a bit over the top in his performance at times. : )

But he was great as the Gorton's fisherman.

The caretaker at Collinwood played by George Mitchell (3 episodes,
starting with episode 6) and Thayer David (28 episodes, until episode
126). When Vicki first arrived at Collinwood she asked Elizabeth about
how much help a big house needed, she replied "We have one man for the
heavy work, Miss Winters, we do the rest ourselves."

The one I just saw recently that touched me was when Barnabas finally got to
see his dead sister Sarah.

Some of those off the top of my head...

When Dr. Lang pulled back the curtains to expose Barnabas to sunlight...

When Dr. Hoffman hides behind the door in her room knowing Barnabas is
coming to kill her and surprises him with a Cross...

When Vicky disappears at the séance and is replaced by Phyllis Wick...
(the look on Barnabas's face with that is priceless)

When Willie opens up Barnabas's coffin for the first time...

When Maggie tells Dr. Hoffman she remembers what happened to her when she
was missing and Dr. Hoffman proceeds to hypnotize her...

1. The revenant of Jeremiah Collins, looking in through the Old House
window. Dark Shadows was rarely all that scary...but that scene makes
me jump every time even when I know it's coming!

2. The look on Barn and Victoria's faces when Roger introduces
Cassangie.

3. When Ben finds Angie sobbing in terror beside Jeremiah's grave,
and she has a (temporary but I think sincere) fear-based moment of
repentance, vowing never to hurt anyone ever again. In that moment it
was obvious that under all the magic, Angie was a very scared young
girl.

4. Angie and Josette's first meeting in Maine, where they babble at
each other in French and show every sign of being delighted to see
each other (and I think they were, Angie forgot her hatred for Josette
for a moment, I really believe that she loves Josette on some level as
much as she hates her).

5. Professor Stokes vs. Cassangie in the modern world. "Yes, I will
die! In my own bed of natural causes!" The look of panic on Angie's
beautiful face as she realizes she's met her match there is priceless.

6. Nicholas and Angie at the Rumsen Estate. "It's a small world,
idn't it?!"

7. Barn and Angie at the Old House after she discovers the truth
about Sky Rumsen, and the Hug. You _know_ the one I mean.

8. The look on Laura's face when Angie steps into view to save
Jamison and Nora.

9. Angie and Nick: "I would have preferred death, to becoming a
vampire." "I imagine Barnabas Collins has said the same thing any
number of times."

10. Quentin and Laura after she first returns, his sarcasm. "The
penitent woman."

11. Angie crying when Naomi gives her the Old House. I think she was
genuinely bowled over and touched.

12. Cassangie and Julia: "I think you're in love with him." "Not
_nearly_ so much as your are."

So many moments...

A few more:

1.The tomb where Angie tries to stop Barn from rising...too late. One
of the best dramatic scenes in DS history, in spite of the presence of
the time travelling stage hand.

2. The climactic scene where Barn shoots Angie and she curses him.

3. Angie trying to scrub the blood off the floor, and it won't come
off.

4. Angie's desperate attempts to save Barn after she curses him, her
pain is so clearly visible, and it's not all self-centered She
genuinely wants to undo what she did in that moment of supreme
hate...and she can't.

5. The scene where Barn first tries to stab Angie, but she was on
time him and he stabs a pillow. "You saw a woman, not a witch. That
_woman_ stands before you now! "That _witch_ is still in your heart
and mind!"

6. Cassangie's first visit to the Old House in modern times.

7. Cassangie comes to the Old House after Nicholas strips her of her
powers. "I was the mistress of this house once."

8. Angie in the Old House in 1795 after Barn is buried, terrified of
sunset.

I haven't seen anyone mention Barnabas and Julia being stunned by
the ruin of Collinwood upon arriving in 1995, especially their
coming down the stairs to see plants growing in the foyer and the
drawing room.

Barnabas showing up at the new house. Or Barnabas choking willie as he
emerges from the coffin. Has to be the biggest surprise in DS history

I always remember with relish the moment in 1968 when Maggie Evans, who
was being held in protective captivity in the secret room in the Collins
Mausoleum by Willie, begins to slowly remember all the bad stuff that
was done to her by Barnabas in the previous year when Barnabas tried to
make her his substitute Josette.

The mounting tension between Maggie, horrified by what she is
remembering, and Willie terrified by Maggie remembering how evil
Barnabas was because Barnabas had changed since then for the better, and
her remembering puts Barnabas in jeopardy.

Willie: "No Maggie, please don't!!!"
Maggie; "Willie, I KNOW WHAT BARNABAS COLLINS IS!!!"
